1.2 Oaklands Hub

The Southern Adelaide Economic Development Board has identified the Oaklands Hub as Priority Precinct for the South.

The vision for Oaklands Hub is to create an active ‘heart’ for Marion.

The delivery of the Oaklands Train station and grade separated rail and road will greatly improve traffic flows and unlock significant commercial and residential development opportunities.

The future Oaklands Hub will be a place for the local community and an iconic destination for broader Adelaide.  It will connect and provide an attractive link to the South Australian Aquatic and Leisure Centre, Marion Cultural Centre and Westfield Marion.

In June 2017, the State and Federal Governments together with the City of Marion committed $174.3 m towards fixing Oaklands Crossing road and rail intersection at Oaklands Park.  However, this alone will not transform Oaklands Park into an attractive, vibrant and liveable precinct.

To realise the full potential of Oaklands Hub private and government investment is required.

Apartments, hotel accommodation and shops would frame the development, which would feature an integrated high quality public realm. The potential uplift includes:

  • 2 ha developable land
  • 300+ new dwellings
  • 2 000+ sqm retail/commercial
  • Community park and public realm streetscape connections.
