The SAEDB Supports Tourism Development in McLaren Vale

The SAEDB strongly support the proposed tourism development at 89 McMurtie Road, McLaren Vale. The proposed $60 million tourism development is to establish a premium resort integrated amongst the existing vines that includes a 500-person conference facility with accommodation of 150 rooms. Such a conference facility of this size and service offering does not currently exist in the region. The combination of both facilities will support attracting visitors to stay longer in the region as well as securing mid-week business events and conferences.

The SAEDB recognises that the concept design for the proposed development is such that the buildings are integrated into the surrounding landscape of vines and the design meets the prescribed use definition within the Character Preservation (McLaren Vale) Act 2012. 

The proposed location also offers the opportunity to cluster accommodation with other existing facilities and proposed developments, that together, further support the attraction of larger conferences and business events to the region. The SAEDB consider that the planned development has the potential to connect new and existing businesses and services that can enhance the visitor experience, particularly for the premium market, that then promote a broader economic benefit in a sustainable and ongoing manner for McLaren Vale, Southern Adelaide and the Fleurieu Peninsula.
