Message from Federal Member for Kingston Amanda Rishworth MP - SAEDB Launch

It is with regret that I am unable to attend the official launch of the Southern Adelaide Economic Development Board.

I was very pleased when I was informed that the Southern Adelaide Economic Development Board would be reformed.

The local economy in the South is going through a challenging time with the exit of automotive manufacturing. It is vital for our region that we have leadership and direction as we move through this period of transition.

Southern Adelaide also has many competitive advantages. The region has a successful tourism industry, is a beautiful place to live and work, and is well placed with proximity to Tonsley and Flinders University. It is important the South’s advantages are capitalised on and used to grow existing and new industries.

As the local Federal Member I have been working with all three levels of Government to develop a way forward for Southern Adelaide, and facilitate economic development and the creation of local jobs.

The reformation of the Southern Adelaide Economic Development Board is a vital part of this process.

The Board will play a key leadership role in the direction of the South, the support of our local industries, and the promotion of our region.

It is imperative the South has a clear direction going forward. The Board will play an important part in developing a Strategic Plan that identifies priorities and economic opportunities for our region’s future.

I wish to recognise the Chief Executive Officer of the City of Onkaparinga, Mr Mark Dowd, and the Chief Executive Officer of the City of Marion, Mr Adrian Skull, and their teams for all their hard work in steering the recreation of the Board.

I would like to acknowledge Chair Nikki Govan and board members Pip Forrester, Terry Burgess, Paul Sandercock, Richard Turner, and Professor Colin Stirling.

Each member brings an important skill set and area of expertise that reflects the diversity of our region.

I know the board members have already done a lot of hard work and are very much already engaging with the community, and I am confident they will achieve great things going forward.

On behalf of residents of the South, thank you to the Board for volunteering your time and expertise for the betterment of our community. I look forward to working with the Board into the future.

Yours Sincerely,
Amanda Rishworth MP
